How does weather effect photography?
Believe it or not but the mist in the photo above was taken just before a workshop was due to start. The photo above is not what our workshops is about but we went ahead with the workshop although it was a unlucky night. But mist is one thing as it can rise within 30mins and doesn’t effect the learning aspect of our workshop; although it does effect the photography somewhat. However on the other hand, rain, wind, snow and fog covering all hours of our workshop will all have the power to cancel our planed workshop and this is why;
The reason we cannot run a photography workshop during a rain storm is;
We do not offer night photography workshops during strong wind beyond 30mph because;
We do not offer photography workshop during snow storms because
We do not offer photography workshop during fog because
How weather effects transportation
If the problems above wasn’t enough. We also have to consider how weather effects public transportation during different seasons; which can sometimes lead to local flooding or canceled over or underground tubes/trains in and out of London.
In concluding
The UK weather is ever changing and will always be our namesis and unlike hiking or other outside activities, night photography in general does require some basic needs like a study tripod or the ability to see the view for a workshop to go ahead and we hate to get the weather reports wrong so we also might need to cancel on the day of the workshop if there is no hope the weather might change, This does make things complicated but it is always better than reaching the meeting point during heavy rain just to be told it’s impossible to shot and you have wasted your time traveling to the workshop.
The reason we cannot run a photography workshop during a rain storm is;
- Equipment can break via mechanical malfunctions.
- You will not be able to hear us speak during the workshop because rain is pretty loud.
- You will not be able to see the locations because locations become misty
- Your night photography will have unwanted light flare.
- You camera bag can be wet through within 30mins.
We do not offer night photography workshops during strong wind beyond 30mph because;
- Your tripods will move and this movement which will ruin any long exposure shots.
- You will not be able to hear us
We do not offer photography workshop during snow storms because
- You cannot see locations during snow storms
- Our workshops take place at night and it becomes much colder after sunset; making standing still for 20mins on location becomes quite unbearably cold for participants and tutors
We do not offer photography workshop during fog because
- You cannot see any of the locations we planned to view.
- You will not have the same learning experience we planned to offer.
